MSS Board Nominations and Elections 

The following positions on the Board of Directors are available for nominations. These are 3-year terms, elected in the groupings noted. Those in bold will be on the 2025-26 ballot.

  1. President Elect-Elect (The first year is intended for preparing for your term, then moving on to President Elect/Program Chair, President, and Immediate Past President. Ultimately, this is a 4-year track.)
  2. Nebraska State Director, North Dakota/South Dakota State Director, Wisconsin State Director
  3. Iowa State Director, Kansas State Director, Missouri State Director, At-Large Director
  4. Illinois State Director, Minnesota State Director, At-Large Director 

About the Positions

President / Presidential Track

The president serves MSS for four years. They will serve as:

  1. President Elect-Elect - This year the individual is not a voting member of the board, but is invited to attend meetings in order to become familiar with the organizational processes of MSS. They will also begin working on the upcoming conference, establishing the theme for the program, considering plenary or keynote speakers, establishing a program committee. They are also responsible for selecting a Student Director.
  2. President Elect - During this year, the individual will support the President and serve as the conference Program Chair. They will work alongside their appointed Student Director and the Program Leadership Team (PLT) to develop all aspects of the conference. 
  3. PresidentThe MSS President is Chair of the Board of Directors that runs our organization. The President is responsible for convening meetings of the board, both special and emergency, soliciting items for meeting agendas, facilitating meetings, ensuring that business of the board is completed, etc. They are also a primary liaison to committee chairs and the Executive Director. The honor of serving as MSS President also comes with the distinction of writing and delivering the Presidential Address and hosting a Reception following the address.
  4. Immediate Past PresidentIn the last year of service, the Immediate-Past-President serves as a voting board member and attends all MSS Board Meetings, chairs the Nominations and Elections Committee, and serves as the MSS Liaison to the ASA.

Individuals in the presidential track are entitled to benefits which support their travel to in-person board meetings, including travel, lodging, and food expenses as outline by board policy.

Directors

State and At Large Directors provide overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization. During their three-year terms, they participate in conference calls and serve on committees. They are responsible for communicating with, serving as a voice for, and representing their state/area in leadership. Directors are entitled to benefits which support their travel to in-person board meetings, including travel, lodging, and food expenses as outline by board policy.

 

Eligibility

To be considered for an elected position or to nominate someone else to service, you and the nominee must:

  • Be a MSS member in good standing at the time of nomination and appointment.
  • Maintain MSS membership over the course of the elected term.
  • Attend board meetings and appointed committee meetings during term in office. 
  • Commit to work and/or e-discussions between board meetings, as requested by the President.
  • Meet the standards of professional ethics as articulated in the MSS Code of Ethics.

Timeline

Nominations are due May 5, 2025. Nominees will receive a request for more information in early Summer to assist the Nominations and Elections Committee with their selection process. A final slate of nominees will be finalized in early Fall and elections will be held thereafter. Terms officially begin after the MSS Business Meeting, which takes place during the MSS Annual Meeting.
